Woman fined $500 for taking apple off plane
In perhaps the overreaction of the century, a woman has been fined $500 for taking an apple off a plane. What?
Crystal Tadlock was travelling from the US to Paris when she was given a sliced apple on-board her first flight, which she decided to save for her second flight.
According to the BBC, said apple was found by US border agents in a random bag search in Minneapolis.
And because all food and agricultural items must be declared, Tadlock was slapped with a massive fine. For taking the very dangerous apple in between planes.
The apple was handed out in a zip locked bag from Delta Air Lines – which Tadlock did not open.
When the prohibited item was found, she asked if she should eat it or throw it away before boarding, like you would if you had a bottle of water left over. Instead, Tadlock received a $500 fine from the agent.
She then posted a pic on Twitter of a sad, empty apple bag, with the word ENJOY written across it. Which obviously, Tadlock didn’t do.
The frequent traveller told CBS Denver that she had gone to France after winning a tour of the Grey Goose vodka castle in Paris.
“He had asked me if my trip to France was expensive and I said, ‘Yeah.’ I didn’t really get why he was asking that question, and then he said ‘It’s about to get a lot more expensive after I charge you $500’,” she told KDVR-TV.
“It’s really unfortunate someone has to go through that and be treated like a criminal over a piece of fruit,” Tadlock added.
Tadlock also said that her Global Entry status, which gives her the privilege of expedited security checks, has now been revoked – and that she’s planning on taking the #applegate incident to court.
