Twitter proves it: Aussies are addicted to travel

Travel planning concept on table

The new year has officially begun.

And with the beginning of a new year comes a return to everyday life, namely work.

If like us, your brain is still stuck somewhere between Christmas and January 3rd, and you too are already thinking of your next break.

And it seems we are not alone in this, as a recent analysis from Twitter shows.

Looking at its users’ social media patterns Twitter has found that almost half of the Tweets about holiday dreaming are shared in the first three days of the working week.

Basically, our collective conscious is thinking about one thing in the first week back at work, and it’s definitely not our very important 3pm meeting about something we’re not completely sure about.

As well as this, the social media giant also found that on average, Aussies Tweet about travel 25 per cent more on office days than on the weekends.

Whoops.

Dissecting our very unproductive habits even further, Twitter also found that travel dreaming takes up at about 90 per cent of our brains (our percentage, not there’s).

Just check out the top Australian travel hashtags point to a national appetite for new experiences:

  1. #travel
  2. #wanderlust
  3. #adventure

Speaking about the results, Suzy Nicoletti, Managing Director of Twitter Australia, said,”No matter where they are in the world, Aussies use Twitter to see and share what’s happening.

“If you take a look at the top travel hashtags, travellers are using Twitter to share awe inspiring pictures, tell stories from the road or get tips on the best little place to eat in town — it’s enough to give anyone #wanderlust.”
