Car ploughs through Flight Centre shopfront

An elderly man was perhaps a little too eager to book a holiday when he accidentally drove his vehicle into the shopfront window of a Flight Centre agency.

The ordeal went down in New Zealand’s Havelock North shortly after 1pm yesterday. The elderly man accidentally put his foot on the accelerator instead of the breaks when reversing out of a parking spot.

It sent him and his vehicle flying through the Flight Centre’s shopfront window (ouch!)

The shop’s Assistant Manager, Koryn Evans, who was inside at the time, was hit with glass but escaped without injuries.

It was one of those ‘thank god’ moments that Evans did not have any customers with her at the time, when the man outside “accidentally pressed the accelerator”, and ploughed into the store.

Evans was sitting right in the shop front window when the man drove through the glass window.

Evans said that the man was “in a state of shock”, but was relatively unharmed.

Nearby pedestrians came running over to assist and emergency services were called. The man was then taken to Hawkes Bay Hospital for a check up.

“I don’t know if I want to sit at that desk again,” Evans said.

The aftermath left the Flight Centre in a shambles, with shattered glass all over the floor and hanging cords swinging from the walls.

Fortunately the clean up was the worst outcome of the incident and no one was seriously injured.
