Midweek Interview with Urban Adventure’s Tony Carne

Midweek Interview with Urban Adventure’s Tony Carne

For our latest Midweek Interview, we get the 411 from Urban Adventures GM Tony Carne, we also got the 1-10, to be honest we don’t know what 411 actually means.

The challenge for the industry is…

Ensuring tourism remains a positive force in the world generally. Overtourism and the impact of more flights globally on the planet are big issues that need to be addressed

The things I like about my job…

Working with amazing, passionate and ambitious people across 6 continents

And the frustrations are …

When people don’t make the most of their opportunities

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Working in a startup in another field. I like building and growing things.

Favourite airline?

Tough one because I generally book on price (hello startup world) but I’d say Singapore Airlines has never let me down, great hub and generous service.

My proudest moment was…

The day my daughter was born.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

Errrr…..you might have to wait for the memoirs

I try to relax by…

Hammocking!

The last time I feared for my life was…

Having a knife pulled on us in Istanbul

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Hotels that make you pay for wifi – seriously WTF?

I really wish I had…

A pizza oven, or a place in the South of France.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

Tony, you are not the customer.

I don’t understand why people…

Ride elephants or feel the need to touch wild animals

My greatest weakness is…

Too many ideas

And my greatest strength is…

Too many ideas

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Invest in people doing cool things

If I was prime minister I would…

Not have worried about a plebiscite and just got it done (that would be a Yes folks!)

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

Mongolian horseman

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Antarctica

My favourite holiday was…

Nepal, no Sri Lanka, no Central America, wait no it was…….

    1. ….. Hotels that make you pay for wifi – seriously WTF?…. ok, the ef is this – providing free wifi to all is not good business sense… there is a science and art to it…. especially for 3 / 3.5 star property and below…. even low cost airlines charge you for everything… there will be full service airlines that includes everything and there will be 4 and 5stars hotels that can provide their guests free wifi… we are actually one of those properties that don’t provide free wifi to everyone … but in terms of occupancy we beat 4 and 5 star properties who mostly provide free wifi …. our direct bookings will make other hotels bite their lower lip in envy…. i’m not gonna tell you why our direct booking is so high but I will give you a clue – we do not provide free wifi to everyone….
