Reddit thread reveals travellers’ worst United experiences

Young woman in international airport, waiting for her flight and looking upset or worried. Missed, canceled or delayed flight concept

United has hit rock bottom in terms of public perception this week after a passenger was dragged off a plane with a bloodied-up face.

Then on top of that, United’s CEO made an appalling apology, tried to pin the blame on the passenger, then issued a sincere apology once the share prices started plummeting.

And in the wake of Twitter users and Chinese Weibo users calling for United Airlines boycotts, a Reddit threat has popped up asking people to share their worst experiences with the carrier.

From unaccompanied minors to family tragedy, it was a pretty hardhitting list. In addition, another United passenger has come forward claiming that before all this drama escalated, he was threatened with handcuffs when he was on an overbooked flight.

Geoff Fearns was on a flight from Kauai to Los Angeles and refused to give up his seat for “somebody more important who came at the last minute”.

Fearns told LA Times that when he was already in his seat, a crew member demanded he get off the plane “because the flight was overfull” and the latecomer was “higher on the [priority] list” than him.

“When she came back a second time it was completely dictatorial – get off or be physically removed or escorted off by security,” he told Mashable.

‘They said they’d put me in cuffs if they had to”.

We think this guy describes the situation best:

So onto the Reddit thread, then. Here’s some of the shockers that have emerged:
