Home-based agency breaks all time record with $80m sales

Travel Counsellors are celebrating a record month of sales for January, with holiday bookings topping $80 million for the first time ever.

The company announced that January included the company’s top-performing sales days since it was established in 1994, with the value of bookings exceeding the $5m mark for the first time in the firm’s history on two consecutive Fridays.

This was followed by a bookings boost on the final day of the month when Travel Counsellors exceeded $5m in sales for the third time, with 8 out of its 10 best ever sales days now in January 2017.

Travel Counsellors reported its most active day in terms of volume and value was Friday 20 January, which saw 1,402 holiday bookings at a combined value of $5.7m.

The home-based agency group said the figures represent a 14.2% increase in AU sales and an 18% increase globally year-on-year.

Earlier this week Travel Weekly reported for the first time in its history, more than half of travel agents in the US are home-based.

“This is obviously really exciting news for the business and the industry as a whole, and is a promising sign that people are looking optimistically towards 2017,” Travel Counsellors CEO Steve Byrne said.

The company said the upward swing was contributed by its in-house booking system Phenix to allow its agents to package tailor-made itineraries and control margins.
