Adventure World recognises responsible travel this World Rhino Day

Adventure World recognises responsible travel this World Rhino Day

Today is World Rhino Day, a day to celebrate all five species of rhino: black, white, greater one-horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinos.

Announced by WWF-South Africa in 2010, it only took a year for World Rhino Day to grow into an international success, encompassing both African and Asian rhino species. It calls for an end to rhino poaching, and therefore allows for future generations enjoy their company on African and Asian guided holidays for many years to come.

The travel industry plays such an integral part in the experiences with such amazing animals, and companies are starting to get involved with the conservation and responsibility to ensure such animals are around for all to enjoy in the future.

Travel Weekly spoke to Adventure World general manager, Neil Rodgers, about the unique wildlife experiences in the new Africa 2017 programme and how Adventure World is a proud supporter of World Animal Protection, and an active partner in the Tread Right Foundation, a not-for-profit that works to help ensure the environment and communities we visit are sustained for generations to come.

Why is it important to Adventure World to operate tours that are ‘responsible travel’?

We simply think it’s the right thing to do. We have been operating in Africa for over 35 years and throughout that period we have been involved in conservation projects and giving back in the areas we operate. ‘Responsible Travel’ is a core and fundamental value at Adventure World and we also recognise how important it is to our clients.

What can be expected on an Adventure World tour such as the 5-day Rhino walking Safari?

The whole tour is designed to allow our clients to experience life as a game ranger. Guests stay in the Rhino Post Safari Lodge within a private wilderness concession in Kruger National Park, South Africa. The first day of our Safari includes the chance to learn about the natural environments and taking a game drive in a 4×4 vehicle. With a maximum of eight people only, guests are guaranteed a peaceful and pristine wilderness experience. On Day two travellers will transfer to Plains Camp which has four Luxury Africa explorer tents that overlook the waterhole, Africa is right at your doorstep. Throughout the Safari guests will game walk with two qualified guides who will share their bush knowledge and basic tracking survival skills.

The 5-day Rhino Walking Safari has been operating for many years and is very unique as guests have the opportunity to walk in the Savannah on foot rather than in a vehicle and experience African wildlife up close-a true highlight. Another added bonus of this Safari is that it allows guests to ‘Sleep out’ in the pristine African environment on elevated wooden platforms with champagne, a walkie talkie, and the opportunity to hear the roars and rumbling of rhino and hippos in the dark. It is a wild encounter like no other!

How can travellers stay involved in such initiatives post travel?

Our travellers know they are with a responsible travel operator. We encourage our clients and agents to keep following the TreadRight Foundation to learn more about our efforts and the steps we are taking to ensure the natural environment and its communities remain vibrant for future generations to enjoy. There is always something new on the horizon. Post travel they are able to visit our website’s ‘Responsibility – Adventure World Cares’ page to keep up to speed on our latest updates.
