River cruising gets adventurous

River cruising gets adventurous

The image of river cruising is set for a refresh as soft adventure specialist G Adventures confirmed it would be entering the river cruise arena with a younger demographic in its sights.

The operator yesterday revealed details of the new program which consists of nine itineraries from eight to 10 days in length cruising river systems in Cambodia, Vietnam, India, France and Peru,

It highlighted the active and cultural elements of the new program, with opportunities to visit and support local communities, which it said set it apart from the “floating all inclusive-like experiences that currently saturate the market”.

“We know Australian and Kiwi travellers love a water-based adventure, so we’ve expanded on the success of our Marine travel style to bring a small-group river-cruising experience – an innovative approach to a traditional form of travel,” managing director Australia and New Zealand Belinda Ward said.

“River cruising is one of the fastest growing segments in travel and we are excited to be launching all new itineraries to open up this wonderful style of travel to travellers from this part of the world.”

The purpose-built vessels will feature large open decks, with every cabin possessing windows and a private bath.

Group sizes will be in the region of 22 to 30 passengers and will be made up travellers from around the globe, accompanied by a locally trained “chief experience officer”.

“Our river cruises encompass the best of G Adventures travel with small groups on a small vessel, they enable travellers to see the interior of some of the world’s greatest places,” Ward said.

Departures will commence next year with voyages along the Ganges the Burgundy River and the Mekong.
