Australia VS America: who will win?

Australia VS America: who will win?

Aussies have been king of the BBQ since Paul Hogan told the world to ‘throw another shrimp on the barbie’.

But lately, things haven’t been looking so hot.

Research from that BBQ brand everyone knows, Weber, revealed only 52% of Australians believe they are better at BBQ than Americans, while one-third of Americans rate their grilling skills better than those in other countries.

So Australia, it’s time to put your best tongs forward and put an international rivalry to bed.

To help celebrate the launch of the Australian BBQ season, Trafalgar, Brand USA, United Airlines, Weber and Flight Centre have teamed up to search for Australia’s best BBQ champions.

But we don’t just want any old backyard chef, no, no! These brands want someone to take on Trafalgar’s American barbeque champions and Be My Guest hosts at the ultimate BBQ cook off in St Louis, Missouri.

Launching today, Friday October 9 and running until November 9, 2015, Aussies are invited to host their own Be My Guest BBQ experience and submit a video or images to www.worldbbqchampion.com.au, proving why they should be crowned as Australia’s next BBQ champions.

Five winning pairs will be announced as national finalists and flown to Sydney to grill it out in an Aussie BBQ cook-off hosted by Australian media personality, Andrew Daddo, and judged by an expert panel on Friday November 27, 2015 at Manly Beach, Sydney.

And what do they get for their efforts?

  • A trip to the USA for 5 nights for two adults
  • Two return economy airfares to Chicago flying United Airlines from your nearest capital/regional airport including airport transfers in Chicago
  • Three nights twin share accommodation in Chicago, valued at up to AU$1134
  • A visit to Weber HQ in Chicago including a complimentary tour of Weber’s New World Headquarters. Winners will “Build Your Own Q”, to be shipped back to their home, enjoy an exclusive lunch by Weber Grill Masters, VIP dinner at Weber Grill Restaurant and personalised lessons from Weber’s Global Grill Master at Weber’s Grill Academy
  • A two-day trip to St Louis, Missouri with Trafalgar for a money can’t buy cook-off experience with Trafalgar’s American Be My Guest BBQ Champions, including two nights’ accommodation and road transfers from Chicago to St. Louis

National finalists will also receive 1 x Weber BBQ pack per couple, valued at up to $682.80, including: 1x Baby Weber Q, 1 x portable cart, 1 x roasting trivet, 1 x half hotplate and 1 x BBQ cover.

“With this campaign we are proud to highlight the amazing culinary experiences on offer in the USA, where the art of BBQ is perfected with absolute precision, and taken to its limits through the refinement of specialist techniques and methods of cooking craftsmanship,” Brand USA Australia director Ollie Philpot said.

That sounds like a challenge. Well, never fear – Weber has some top BBQ tips for you to get show off your barbie prowess.
