Virgin Australia makes fresh changes
Starting tomorrow, Virgin Australia is making a system enhancement that will prevent any changes being made to an itinerary in the Global Distribution System (GDS) if a guest has checked in for their flight.
Voluntary Changes on day of departure or after check-in
In regards to voluntary changes on the day of departure or after check-in, if fare rules permit and your customer wishes to change their flight, the below procedure applies.
- When making a change to your customer’s itinerary, please check the e-ticket to verify that the passenger has not already checked in for their flight.
- If the passenger is already checked in, you must contact Virgin Australia to un-check the passenger from the flight before a new flight is booked.
- Cancelling the flight from your booking will not change the status of the e-ticket and the new segment will not be received by the airline, resulting in a No Show of the original flight and disruption for your customer.
- Once the passenger has been removed from the flight and the e-ticket coupon is in OPEN status, you can proceed with booking the new flight and exchanging your ticket.

Virgin Australia has also announced an expansion of its codeshare network in China.
As part of its codeshare alliance with Silkair (MI), Virgin Australia will be adding Hangzhou (HGH).
The introduction of this codeshare service brings the airline’s number of codeshare destinations in China to 11, offering travellers a greater number of connections between Virgin Australia and codeshare partners Singapore Airlines (SQ) and Silkair (MI).
Silkair (MI) operates four return services per week on the Singapore – Hangzhou route, using new, two-class Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Convenient connections are possible to and from multiple Virgin Australia cities across Australia and New Zealand via Singapore.
Fares are now available through the Virgin Australia website and Global Distribution System (GDS).
