Lonely Planet has released a unique and interesting array of ‘top lists’ for travel in 2015. Ranging from the standard Best Value Destinations to some more quirky World's Best Places for Extreme Eating, the lists are sure to inspire travellers from all walks of life to get out and explore more in 2015.

The Top 10 Countries to visit in 2015 ranked Singapore as number one, followed by Namibia, Lithuania, Nicaragua, Ireland, Republic of Congo, Serbia, The Philippines, St Lucia, and Morocco.

The Top 10 Cities for 2015 recognised Washington, DC, followed by El Chalten, Argentina; Milan, Italy; Zermatt, Switzerland; Valletta, Malta; Plovdiv, Bulgaria; Salisbury, UK; Vienna, Austria; Chennai, India; and Toronto, Canada.

Getting regional, Lonely Planet ranked Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey as the top spot, beating out Rocky Mountain National Park, USA; The Toledo District, Belize; Tasmania, Australia; Northern Norway; Khumbu, Nepal; Copper Canyon, Mexico; Flores, Indonesia; Atacama Desert, Chile and Macau, China.

If you want bang for your buck, then Tunisia is the Top Choice for Value in 2015. As the North African country moves on from safety to recovery for tourism, there has been a renewed appreciation of why the country is such a compelling destination. South Africa wasn’t far behind on value, with currency fluctuations meaning for certain travellers, it is more affordable than it has been for many years.

Travellers looking to experience the most of the Chinese ‘Year of the Sheep’ in 2015 can head to the Jade Chinese zodiac in New York City, USA. As part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection of Chinese Decorative Arts, this zodiac is usually on display in Gallery 222, and ranks as the Top Sheepish Travel Encounters for the Chinese Year of the Sheep.

Loved up and looking to propose? Then sunrise at Bagan, Myanmar (Burma) wins out as the perfect time and place to pop the question. Closely followed on the list of The World’s Best Places to Get a ‘yes’ is Trolltunga, Skjeggedal, Norway and various locations around New York City, USA.

The Top 10 Wonderful Workouts Around the Globe listed Grouse Grind, North Vancouver, Canada as the ideal place for visitors looking for a little exercise. The sharp hit of dramatic mountain fitness (and beauty) won’t disappoint those who head to the North Shore and tackle the Grouse Grind. The Grind, which rises 853m up the forest-clad face of Grouse Mountain in just 2.9km of trail (including 2830 stairs), is unsurprisingly referred to as ‘Mother Nature’s Stairmaster’.

Travel doesn’t have to break the bank, as the Best Free Things to Do in 2015 list reveals. London’s Kensington Museums in the UK ranked top for the freebies, followed by Star gazing in the desert, Nevada, USA; Lunch at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, India; Rock al Parque, Bogot√°, Colombia; Trek up Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa; Relax on the beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Admire the Northern Lights, Lapland, Finland; Ride the Staten Island Ferry, New York City, USA; Surf it up in Sydney, Australia and See the Symphony of Lights, Hong Kong, China

Other top lists include Unforgettable Family Travel Experiences, Top Places to Feel Like You’re in the Future, Special anniversaries in 2015 and more.
