Lufthansa has overhauled its Australian offering in response to demand from travel agents for a simplified and enhanced product offering.

With immediate effect, the airline has introduced routing fares and will phase out its mileage fare system.

“With the introduction of routing fares we are pleased to offer an enhanced yet simplified product with more inclusions, improved availability, less risk of ADMs and improved support to the trade,” general manager Lufthansa Group Anil Rodricks said.

Zones have been reduced to two zones that cover 164 destinations in Europe with domestic Australian sectors also built into the new structure.

“The new simple and transparent fare concept will allow for even greater travel options to Europe,” Rodricks said.

Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand will extend their marketing partnership into Singapore and South East Asia with a $20 million funding boost.

The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding last year to promote New Zealand to key international markets. Today’s announcement will see them extend that activity into the additional markets in support of Air NZ’s proposed alliance with Singapore Airlines.

“Working together to capitalise on this momentum is a natural progression that will positively impact New Zealand’s tourism industry and is a wonderful example of collaboration which supports the Tourism Industry Association’s Tourism 2025 framework for growth,” Air NZ chief executive Christopher Luxon said.

A new research project will explore the history of hospitality on North Stradbroke Island, as part of a TQUAL grant received by Straddie Camping.

Jointly conducted by Straddie Camping and the North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum, the project will delve into more than 200 years of visitors to the island which began with the arrival of explorer Matthew Flinders in 1803.
