AFTA delight as ATAS wins Magellan support
By admin

The Magellan Travel Group has pledged its support to ATAS as the launch date of the Australian Federation of Travel Agent’s new accreditation scheme moves closer.

The confirmation that Magellan members will join the scheme comes amid a period of great debate on the topic of consumer protection, ahead of ATAS’ July 1 launch.

“Magellan will strongly encourage existing members to join and will be requiring new members to join ATAS,” chief executive Andrew Macfarlane said.

“AFTA has led the charge to develop an industry-led, fit for purpose scheme for all travel intermediaries that incorporates the necessary flexibility to accommodate the industry’s diversity.”

The show of support was welcomed by AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury who thanked the group for its faith in the scheme.

“ATAS will set the benchmark and we truly believe that our marketing campaign will promote the value of an agent to the consumer,” he said.

“ATAS talks to the professionalism, integrity and credibility of Australian Travel Intermediaries and their attractiveness to the consumer now and into the future.”

Meanwhile, the ATAS online application process is being finalised with AFTA expecting to start taking applications from next week.

It will hold its final series of consultation workshops around Australia in the coming weeks to provide information to travel intermediaries on how to become accredited.
