Virgin, Airberlin launch codeshare agreement

Virgin, Airberlin launch codeshare agreement
By admin

The signing of a new reciprocal codeshare and frequent flyer agreement will see Virgin Australia and German carrier Airberlin coordinate on services.

Subject to government approval, Virgin Australia will place its code on Airberlin services from Abu Dhabi to Dusseldorf and Berlin. Meanwhile, Airberlin will place its code on Virgin's Abu Dhabi-Sydney service, its Phuket-Perth service and on nine of its domestic services within Australia.

Members of Virgin's Velocity Frequent Flyer scheme and Airberlin's Topbonus scheme will receive reciprocal benefits and opportunities to both earn and redeem points on services operated by either carrier.

Virgin chief commercial officer Judith Crompton said the deal further strengthens the carrier's virtual network enabling its customers able to travel "seamlessly" to Dusseldorf and Berlin and beyond.

"We will continue to work with our partners to provide an expanded network for our customers and offer more opportunities to be rewarded and recognised through our Velocity Frequent Flyer Program," she added.

Airberlin currently flies daily from Abu Dhabi to both Berlin and Dusseldorf using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Fares under the new arrangement go on sale today for travel from August 1.

Both airlines are part of Etihad's "equity alliance" with the Abu Dhabi-based carrier holding stakes in both Virgin and Airberlin.
