Snowfall gets ski season firing

Snowfall gets ski season firing

Heavier than expected snowfall over the last few days has prompted Falls Creek to open more lifts and more terrain, with the resort now ski-in ski-out.

A storm at the weekend delivered “more than half a metre” of snow, according to Falls Creek Ski Lifts general manager Francis Jackson.

“These big winter weather systems from the north-west generally favour Falls Creek, and that has certainly been the case with this storm,” he said.

The fresh snow combined with extensive snowmaking resulted in Highway 83 opening top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding, with Broadway, all the home trails, Last Hoot, Fast Hoot and other runs now open on the front side of the resort.

The Gully Chairlift and Eagle Chairlift have opened for the first time this season along with various other runs. Further chairlifts and runs are scheduled to open this week.

The snowfall means that Falls Creek village is now ski-in, ski-out.

“Falls Creek is the only true ski-in, ski-out alpine resort in Australasia,” Jackson said. “This creates a unique alpine atmosphere and unmatched convenience for guests.”
