Socceroo success sees Aussies looking to Brazil

Searches for flights from Australia to Brazil soared in the wake of Australia’s qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night, according to flight comparison site Skyscanner.

Following the game, in which the Socceroos beat Iraq 1-0, Skyscanner flight searches from Australia to Brazil rocketed by 700% compared with the day before.

But Australia market development manager Dave Boyte warned flights to attend the event, which kicks off on June 12, could cost in excess of $1,000.

“We’re predicting that Brazil will become one of the top long-haul destinations next year with soccer fans and travellers alike getting the opportunity to travel all over the country visiting some of the 12 World Cup host cities,” he said.
