Sunshine Coast set for second Kiwi boost

Sunshine Coast set for second Kiwi boost

Air New Zealand has confirmed its Auckland-Sunshine Coast seasonal service will return in 2013 following a successful trial this year.

The direct Airbus A320 service will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays from June 18 to October 13, with the 17-week season extended to include the October school holidays.

It will connect to the domestic international networks of Air NZ and its trans-Tasman ally Virgin Australia.

Air New Zealand general manager Australasia Bruce Parton said the route had been particularly popular with holidaymakers from New Zealand eager to chase the winter sun.

“Destination Sunshine Coast is rapidly growing in popularity and demand for the service is expected to exceed this year’s figures as awareness of the route grows,” he said.

Meanwhile, Virgin Australia group executive alliances Merren McArthur underlined the benefits of the service for Australian tourism as a whole.

“Kiwis can also use the Sunshine Coast as a staring point to explore other parts of Queensland and Australia, which helps to grow tourism in this country,” she said.

“We will continue to work with our partner Air New Zealand to promote the route and to look for other opportunities to enhance our joint offering for customers.”
