Travelscene eyes Magellan agents

Travelscene American Express has launched a recruitment drive with the network revealing it is already in talks with Magellan agents.

The network has seen agency numbers steadily decline in recent years and has set plans in motion to rebuild its membership base.

Travelscene now has 415 members, down from around 460 12 months ago.

Chief executive Mike Thompson said it is looking to woo Magellan agents — several of which defected from Travelscene – back into the fold.

“We are already talking to a number of them,” he confirmed to Travel Today.

He declined to reveal how many agents it was looking to sign as part of the recruitment drive although internal targets have been set.

General manager David Padman said growth would be “modest”.

“There isn’t an array of agents that we can go after, but there is an opportunity,” he said. “We are going to make sure our value proposition stacks up.

“We will talk to people who left the network and people with potential. We’ll talk to anyone who can match our value proposition.”

Thompson said the decline in membership is largely the result of mergers and acquisition.

“Regrettably there has also been some closures,” he said.
