Wellington tipped for TRENZ 2014

Wellington tipped for TRENZ 2014
By admin

Wellington is poised to host New Zealand trade show TRENZ in 2014 after withdrawing from the race for next year’s event.

Well placed sources said a bid by the capital, which has never hosted the event, would be looked upon “very favourably” by organisers.

Wellington had originally put its hand up to stage the 2013 show but withdrew late in the process, leaving only Rotorua and Auckland as contenders.

The Travel Industry Association selected Auckland, which hosted TRENZ in 2009 and again in 2010.
Sources said Wellington “deferred” its 2013 bid as it needs to firstly focus on updating building requirements in light of the Christchurch earthquake.

The future development of tourist attractions surrounding The Hobbit movies is also thought to have played a part in the decision.

Positively Wellington chief executive David Perks confirmed the tourism body was considering the opportunity to host the 2014 show.

"We now have a really good understanding of what the opportunity is and what we'd need to do for TRENZ to be a fantastic event for Wellington, buyers and exhibitors," he said.
