Cathay begins ‚Äúmassive” IT switch
By admin

Agents will be unable to confirm Cathay Pacific bookings on February 11 and 12 as the carrier upgrades to a new reservation system.

The airline will also be forced to suspend certain customer-facing systems while it moves technology platforms.
The transition from its in-house 1980’s-built technology to Amadeus’ Altea reservation and inventory system will see the airline’s website www.cathaypacific.com, and its mobile sites go offline at 6pm AEST on Saturday February 11.
The majority of the site will be available again by 11pm AEST on Sunday February 12.
Online check-in, self-service kiosks and ticket sales will also be put on hold, although travel agents will be able to put new reservations “on request.”
“Bookings will not be confirmed until the system resumes service,” the airline said.
The airline’s flight schedule will be unaffected by the changeover.
Chief operating officer Ivan Chu described the switch as a “massive undertaking” that has been years in the planning.
“For example, as just one part of the process, we will migrate more than one million passenger bookings between systems,” he said.
The upgraded system will enable Cathay to “support the continued growth of our airline and the expanding expectations of our customers”.
