Where in the world is safe to travel?

When it comes to travelling, safety is one concern that constantly hovers around the top of our minds.

But in good news for anyone travelling to Finland, Qatar, Iceland and Austria, the World Economic Forum has counted down the winners in terms of tourism safety and security.

The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report for 2015 rates 141 countries, from the good to the not so good, giving travellers a better idea on places safest to jetset to.

Coming in the top 10, Finland wore the golden crown, while Qatar and the United Arab Emirates sat on the bronze podium.

Australia managed to sweep in the top 20 at number 13, ahead of the Sultanate of Oman, Switzerland, and even crowd favourites Norway and Sweden.

Check out the top 15 below, or see the entire list right here.

  1. Finland
  2. Qatar
  3. United Arab Emirates
  4. Iceland
  5. Austria
  6. Luxembourg
  7. New Zealand
  8. Singapore
  9. Oman
  10. Portugal
  11. Switzerland
  12. Hong Kong SAR
  13. Australia
  14. Slovenia
  15. Ireland

For the cynical at heart, the least secure spots to travel in the list included Egypt, Venezuela, Pakistan, Yemen, Colombia and Nigeria.

Speaking on the results, the Sultanate of Oman Tourism’s country manager for Australia/NZ Mona Tannous said it’s important to market the safety of a destination to travellers.

“Perceptions of safety and security can affect where people choose to travel to and through. We’re confident this list will play some part in reassuring travellers of what we’ve always known – that Oman is a welcoming, safe and breath-taking place to visit,” she said.
