“Most frightening thing I’ve ever experienced”: United passenger

FRANKFURT, GERMANY - JULY 17, 2014: United Airlines aircraft logo at an aircraft in Frankfurt. United Airlines is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

A passenger onboard a United Airlines flight has experienced the “most frightening thing” ever, and no he wasn’t dragged off by airport security.

In fact, it’s a bit of a hero story for United, who definitely needs the positive publicity right now.

The Texas-bound flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Costa Rica, per news.com.au, because the engine was overheating.

A spokeswoman for United, Erin Benson, claimed the two-engine Boeing 737 had to circle around the Liberia, Costa Rica, airport for about an hour to burn fuel, before they could land.

This was due to the plane being over normal landing weight, and saw fire crews on standby at the airport.

But just as they were about to touchdown on the emergency landing, what passenger Jody Genessy – a self-professed frequent flyer – called a “wind sheer” hit the plane, almost resulting in a crash.

Luckily, everyone escaped unscathed, and were reboarded on a new flight to Houston. The passengers were all compensated, per news.

The nicest part of the story was when the same pilots arrived to fly the new flight, and they received a standing ovation from passengers, all grateful for their skill and quick-thinking when landing the plane.

Check out the string of tweets from Genessy, documenting the incident:
