Cruise giant Royal Caribbean has confirmed that it has welcomed its 50 millionth guest onboard one of its ships, marking a significant milestone in its 45-year history.

In a thank you letter, president and chief executive Adam Goldstein paid tribute to its "phenomenal" guests and  "hard working and inspiring" crew while also recognising the efforts of the travel trade.

"Marking our 50 millionth guest also means that the travel agent community believes in us," he said.

"Simply stated, thank you. We would not have gotten here without you and we believe that your partnership is our most valuable asset and a crucial part of our success."

Goldstein promised more "WOWs" for the next 50 million guests, to be delivered by innovations, service and destinations.

Royal now kicks off a "year-long celebration of WOW" with people are invited to share their "WOW moments" and tag their stories with the hashtag #ROYALWOW.
