TW chats to Women in Travel Sponsor, Travel Counsellors

THE INAUGURAL WOMEN IN TRAVEL AWARDS ARE STEAMROLLING ALONG WITH FINALISTS TO BE REVEALED SOON. ONE MAJOR SPONSOR OF THE EVENT IS NONE OTHER THAN TRAVEL COUNSELLORS.

Travel Counsellors is not like any other travel company. According to them, they put the customer at the heart of their own travel experience, and are proud to lead on service rather than price “creating perfect travel experiences for every customer, every time”. This approach has allowed the company to build an unrivalled customer satisfaction score and a business model that is robust, with more than 1,550 Travel Counsellors across the globe. For over twenty years the company has set the trends in travel business homeworking, as its vision for businesses built on relationship building, repeat bookings and referrals is unique.

Travel Weekly caught up with Ray Howe, Travel Counsellors’ Marketing & PR director to chat about their sponsorship of Women in Travel.

What does the Women in Travel event mean to you?

It’s crucial that women are recognised as equal. At Travel Counsellors we recognise that despite the high number of women in the industry, many of the boardrooms are still full of men. So we have a way to go before equality is achieved within the industry and this event is a significant stepping stone towards recognising the incredible contribution that women make to the industry.

Why did Travel Counsellors sponsor the event?

More than 90% of our agents are women, so it would be remiss of us to not support this event. As a company, we are committed to empowering women. At Travel Counsellors we believe in equality for people of all genders, races and religions. We have many exceptional women achieving their potential with us and this is why we have decided to become a sponsor of the event.

This is the inaugural Women in Travel Awards in Australia. Why do you think this is an important event the travel industry should embrace?

With so many women in the industry we believe the Women in Travel Awards will highlight the opportunities available to women and hopefully foster a culture of aspiration rather than failed dreams and frustrations associated with coming up against glass ceilings. It’s also a good opportunity to celebrate the considerable achievements of women in the industry – some of which have largely gone unnoticed until now.

What are you looking forward to most about the event?

Travel Counsellors are sponsoring two categories that are central to our business mantra: Technology and Corporate Travel. When it comes to the innovative use of technology within the travel industry, we are pioneers so it made sense to sponsor this category. We are currently further developing our investment in Corporate Travel and as we do so we are looking to learn from the best in the industry.

What’s the most important thing to focus on when it comes to women’s role in the travel industry?

To eliminate discrimination of all types and create an industry full of equal opportunities for all. Obviously, we also hope to see more women in leadership positions within the industry, as well as in other industries and sectors, including government.

Travel Weekly are proud to present the inaugural Women in Travel Awards. The Awards will be presented at a gala cocktail function on 17 November in Sydney – reserve your seat now with Earlybird rates on offer.
