Tourists arrested after human poop found at Machu Picchu

A group of tourists have been arrested after fecal matter was found at Peru’s famous Inca citadel, Machu Picchu.

Yes, you read that correctly. Somebody pooped in what is considered one of the most sacred landmarks in South America.

The culprits, four men and two women, allegedly entered the Temple of the Sun area and damaged a wall, leaving behind feces, the Ministry of Culture said according to CNN.

The mayor of the Machupicchu District, Darwin Baca León, told reporters the arrests were made after the group “attacked” the local heritage site, adding that the incident is under investigation.

Local media reported the group were aged between 20 and 32 and were made up of three Argentines, a Brazilian, a Chilean and a French woman.

Last year, tourists were banned from stepping foot on Uluru, one of Australia’s most iconic sacred Indigenous sites, for, among myriad other things, using the landmark as a toilet.

So, we guess the moral of this story is to never poop on sacred landmarks. It never ends well.
