SPOTTED: Bonza takes delivery of fleet as 737 MAX seen sporting livery

Bonza, Australia’s first start-up airline, appears to be on track for its September launch, with a Boeing 737 MAX sporting its logo spotted in Seattle.

Australian Aviation reported the sighting and said the aircraft took off just after 12:30pm local time on Wednesday and was painted in the airline’s shade of purple at the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville before returning to Boeing Field in Seattle.

Twitter user The Great Planes managed to snap a picture of the plane and noted it was the second one they had spotted.

“*SPOTTED* future VH-UJT — the very first fully painted Bonza 737-8!” they said.

“Both this guy and the one I posted a couple weeks ago are registered N5515X, but the bare metal one (still sitting here at BFI) is former SP-LVE, while this one is former SP-LVO. What a beaut!”

Bonza’s CEO Tim Jordan told the Financial Review the airline would receive the first of its eight Boeing 737 MAX jets this month setting it on track for its September launch.

The airline had intended an earlier launch but was faced with supply chain difficulties.

“Like the rest of the world, there is a range of supply chain issues which have gone on and are unfortunately ongoing and, as a result, we are receiving our aircraft slightly later than initially anticipated,” he said.

Last week, Bonza began the search for cabin crew to man its fleet and revealed its first-ever uniform in early June.

The low-cost carrier’s launch network includes 17 destinations and 27 routes – 81 per cent of which are not served by any airline and 96 per cent are not currently served by a low-cost carrier.

Travellers can expect to pay an average of $50 to $100 for a one to two-hour flight.
