“She needs to be put in jail”: US travel agent investigated for allegations of felony theft

A US travel agent went to court yesterday after accusations arose of her stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her clients.

Maysoon Nasir, a travel agent from Oak Lawn, Illinois, has been charged with two counts of identity theft, four counts of felony theft by deception and one misdemeanour count of obstruction of identification.

Nasir appeared in court via zoom, to the chagrin of some of her victims hoping for an in person appearance.

The victims said they sent Nasir money for holidays, but something would go awry.

CBS reported that it heard of Nasir’s clients receiving flight confirmation numbers that wouldn’t work at the airport and instances of unpaid reservations at hotels.

“Going to Cancun and not knowing where you’re going to stay at night is horrible,” said Salina Elizondo, one of Nasir’s alleged victims.

“We need justice here,” said Hector Galvan, another victim. “She needs to be put in jail.”

Police said that Nasir would advertise holiday deals on social media and get customers to pay for trips using Zelle or Venmo.

The Chicago-based WGN9 said Nasir would tell her clients there had been a glitch or mix-up with the system and that caused an issue with their booking.

She will appear in court again in September where she is expected to enter a plea.
