REVIEW: The Anam Mui Ne – A top-rated resort blending Indochine history and modern flair

REVIEW: The Anam Mui Ne – A top-rated resort blending Indochine history and modern flair

Nestled in the coastal town of Mui Ne in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan Province, The Anam Mui Ne is a gem of a resort that opened its doors in January of this year.

As an independently owned and operated property, it stands out for its commitment to social and eco-responsibility, which is evident in every aspect of the resort, from its design and architecture to its locally sourced food and community employment.

The Location

The sand dunes at Mui Ne are also referred to as the “Desert of Vietnam” and range in colour from yellow to bright red, very much an Insta worthy back drop. Mui Ne is also famous for its beautiful beaches and is located about 200 kilometres northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. A perfect place to unwind after the more frenetic pace of Saigon.

The Stay and ticking all the socially and eco responsible boxes

The Anam Mui Ne opened in January this year, and surrounded by the Mui Ne oceanfront, is an independently owned and operated resort. Vietnam-born founder and owner Pham Van Hien, is passionate about local and sustainable resorts and this has been woven into everything from the design of the resort, the architecture and artwork, through to the locally grown food and employment of the local community.

The Anam’s goal is to be fully carbon neutral and everywhere you can see this commitment – no plastics, bamboo substitutes, a flourishing vegetable and herb garden for food. This also includes Solar power and Laundry water is recycled to water the gardens. The resort’s eco-friendly key cards are also made from wood that’s been sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Rooms

The resort has 127 rooms and suites across six accommodation categories. The Private Pool Suites and Presidential Suite are the resort’s leading accommodation categories. The 142sqm Private Pool Suites have their own 22sqm private pools complemented with terraces decked with sun loungers. The rooms were blissful and comfortable and nothing was too difficult from the wonderful and warm staff.

Design

Vietnamese artists were commissioned to create 250 original oil paintings for each room and suite, as well as the lobby, restaurants and hallways. Wandering around the resort and being immersed in the beautiful selection of artwork, is one of those differentiators you find in independent hotels,. And missing often in the more generic chain hotels. Artists such as Bui Van Quang, renowned for his portrayals of daily Vietnamese life, and Vu Trong Anh, a modern, abstract interpretation of Vietnamese scenery. All the art blends and intersects seamlessly with the architecture, a nod to its Indochine history.

Wellness Centre

The Anam Spa has five treatment rooms, including three VIP rooms designed for couples – each equipped with two massage beds and a deep-soaking bathtub – as well as two single rooms, two steam rooms, saunas, indoor Jacuzzis and a beauty salon. I enjoyed a few treatments there and it was world class. The small added touches included a sweet with tea and cold hand towels, always welcome on a hot day.
