Midweek Interview with The St. Regis’ Michelle Caporicci

We chat with Michelle Caporicci, the Managing Director of The St. Regis Langkawi, the Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa, and the International Convention Centre Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia. Talk about overachiever!

The challenge for the industry is…

Being consistent. It is a people’s business and it gets hard to be consistent in the hospitality industry.

The things I like about my job…

Helping to shape the careers of our up and coming employees and raising stars.

And the frustrations are …

Corporate politics.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Travelling

Favourite airline?

Cathay Pacific because they never cease to wow me.

I try to relax by…

yoga and meditation. It keeps me grounded and prepares me for the day, no matter what comes my way.

The last time I feared for my life was…

on a flight from Hong Kong to Osaka in the worst turbulence ever. The second time was when my plane was struck by lightning mid-flight over the South China Sea from Hong Kong to Bali.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Arguments, life is too short to squabble. I’d rather find solutions.

I really wish I had…

Learned how to speak Italian. It’s never too late….

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

Never accept no for an answer.

I don’t understand why people…

See the glass half empty.

My greatest weakness is…

My sweet tooth because I love cookies. My team calls me the cookie monster 🙂

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Work with young women to provide them with the skills and tools to advance their careers.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

Singer because I always wished I was gifted with a musical voice.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Africa, it one of the only continents that I’ve not been.

My favourite holiday was…

My trip to Sri Lanka where I travelled solo and through the tea fields, went on safari, prayed in the temples and enjoyed the beautiful sea.
