Long faces welcome at Spanish horse hotel

It’s not unusual for hotels to host dogs with their owners.

But in El Pedroso in Seville, there’s a resort where guests can stay with their horses.

In the rural complex of Sierra Hueznar, located between the Seville towns of Constantina and El Pedroso, guests can travel with their horses and stay in the same place.

“We saw that there were people who had horses and liked to spend time with them during their stay,” the director of the resort, Antonio Sayago, said.

“We found that there was a demand for horse tracks and there was the potential to host them here.

Customers told us that they had their own horses, and wanted to carry out their activities when staying in our facilities,” he said.

So customer-horse stay became available in 2005, with the horse staying about three minutes away from its owner.

The hotel has 48 rooms for its human clients, and between 10 and 12 for horses, who are offered the same level of service as their owners, and even if there is more demand than places, horses can be accommodated nearby.

Sayago declares that he wants to maintain the level of rural tourism in the area, a type of vacation that “has risen sharply for a few years, even in times of crisis, because people still prefer rural tourism for their vacations.”

But above all, ideas like this respond to the diversity sought by people who want to do activities.

“We sell experiences, as a way to respond to clients’ demands,” Sayago explains.

This innovative idea is not expensive because if the horse’s owner brings its food, hosting the animal will only cost six euros ($A9.55) a day, which is charged for cleaning the stables, while if food is provided, the cost is 12 euros ($A19.11) per day.
