Life in the time of COVID-19 with Outrigger Hospitality Group’s Andrew Gee

This week, we caught up with Outrigger’s vice president of sales for the Asia Pacific, Andrew Gee, to find out how he’s been faring amid all the COVID chaos.

What are you reading?

I’ve rediscovered the old Sidney Sheldon books (plus, they are great value at Vinnies).

What are you watching?

The first three seasons of Grand Tour (the newer version of the original Top Gear). Gotta love Between Two Ferns too!

What are you listening to?

A wide range of Aussie rock playlists and back-catalogue albums.

What are you cooking?

Spicy curries. Last night was Sri Lankan chicken curry – very yum!

How are you staying fit both physically and mentally?

Doing at least an hour of brisk walking a day on the treadmill, or long coastal walks on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Mentally, catching up with friends has helped.

What’s something positive you’ve witnessed or experienced since the coronavirus hit?

Greater interaction with neighbours and a community willingness to help other people.

What have you learned about yourself amid the crisis?

How much I miss travelling and exploring the globe! Also, my cooking skills seem to have improved – well, my two boys certainly think so!

What’s your advice for others in the industry on coping with the crisis?

We just need to hang in there. Surely there is light at the end of the tunnel soon!

Where is your favourite domestic travel destination?

Tassie – so many awesome places, and the air is so fresh and invigorating.

What is the one international travel memory keeping you going through this time?

Hanging out on Castaway Island, Fiji.

Where do you want to travel to once international travel restrictions ease up?

Anywhere! Seriously though, I would love to get back to Hawaii. I miss the aloha spirit.
