Heavy fog causes Sydney Airport chaos

Morning fog consumes the Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia.

A blanket of fog has engulfed Sydney this morning, causing chaos at Sydney Airport with delays of up to two hours and flight cancellations.

The airport has put a notice on its website and social media accounts urging passengers to allow plenty of time for travel and to check with airlines for flight status.

A spokesperson for Sydney Airport told Travel Weekly that it is experiencing delays at its domestic terminal, with some exceeding two hours, and a number of cancellations.

Some international flights are suffering too with delays of up to 30 minutes.

The fog also affected flights leaving Canberra airport, causing delays of up to two hours, according to the Canberra Times.

The Bureau of Meteorology said in a Tweet the fog would be clear by mid-morning but it is not yet clear how long the airport delays will last.
