Frenchman arrested in Mumbai for smoking and defecating in seat

Hand about to bang gavel on sounding block in the court room

A 36-year-old Frenchman has been arrested in Mumbai after smoking and defecating in his seat while flying from France to India.

The passenger was handed over to the police by the security supervisor of Vistara after committing the dangerous acts on a flight between Paris and Mumbai.

He was arrested and handed over to the Sahar police before being released on bail. Police have submitted a charge sheet to the court.

Before the flight landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, security was alerted to the presence of an “unruly” passenger.

“The crew told us that he had not only smoked while the flight was mid-air but also defecated on his seat. After getting him a security clearance, we brought him to the Sahar police,” security personnel is quoted as saying.

The passenger is suspected to have been booked under 336 (a rash act endangering the life or personal safety of others).
