“Flung straight out of your seat:” Jetstar and Air New Zealand flights involved in separate incidents

Two aviation incidents have made the headlines on Friday morning involving Jetstar and Air New Zealand.

The first incident involved a Jetstar flight from Tokyo to Cairns.

JQ26 was forced to divert to Guam due to damage of the windscreen on the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

A spokesperson for Jetstar told media a replacement aircraft was sent to Guam to collect the stranded passengers and continue their journey to Australia.

‘We arranged hotel accommodation and meals for customers during the delay in Guam, and our captain and operations team worked closely with local authorities to arrange customs processing and support at the airport,’ a spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, it was bad weather that turned an Air New Zealand flight from Christchurch to Sydney into a “white-knuckle” ride.

NZ223 struck “20 minutes of terrible turbulence” as it crossed the Southern Alps in the South Island of Aotearoa.

Shosh Cleary told Stuff, the plane was “literally throwing your body from side to side.”

“It was just shaking absolutely crazy, then all of a sudden it dropped.

“It literally just flung you straight out of your seat, everyone’s stuff was flying,” Cleary said.

Another passenger told Stuff that crew came through the cabin following the turbulence to see if anyone had been injured.

No injuries were reported to passengers or crew.
