Buyers delight with Fiji developments

Australian buyers attending the Fijian Tourism Expo 2015 have touted the show as an overall success.

Speaking to Travel Weekly in Denarau yesterday, Adelaide-based Venture Holidays managing director Robert Mackay said the show was “extremely well organised” and evening events showcasing Fijian food & beverage and other products were “impressive”.

“It’s a great opportunity to see what is available in Fiji and in particular great to see the investment coming into the country,” Mackay said.

According to Mackay, the show has provided access to a range of new products for the wholesaler such as Talanoa Treks and Flavours of Fiji cooking school, as well as updates on various new accommodation developments.

Fiji remains a “small” product for the wholesaler due to the lack of direct air services out of South Australia, but provides “very good yields” according to Mackay.

Meanwhile, Flight Centre Global Product managers Glynn Pugh and Carissa Stagg said they too were impressed with this year’s expo.

“It’s good to see the show expand and build on the success from last year’s FTE, as well as to see positivity from the industry and excitement around new opportunities which have come up,” Pugh told Travel Weekly.

Stagg said having one-on-one meetings to touch base with Fijian suppliers was beneficial, and seeing existing product “reinvigorating the industry” was “exciting”.

While Flight Centre already have a comprehensive range of existing Fiji product across its various brands, Pugh said the company was “always on the look out for new products for our global distribution”, and a few key new items at this year’s FTE are being considered. Fiji remains a significant destination for the group globally, Pugh confirmed.
