Business by day, party by night
When you travel, you want diversity.
You want to be able to explore like an adventurer during the day, and party like a rockstar at night. But where can you find such a sweet deal?
Zurich, that’s where.
Parties in Zurich really get going after 11.00pm and continue into the wee hours of the morning. Here, there are no official closing times.
In summer, nightlife can be found not only in the clubs, but also outside in the open air; the venues where visitors bathe and relax during the day are ideal places to flirt and dance at night.
So we’ve counted down the hottest places to go.
If you want casual
Sometimes a raging night that reminds you of your early twenties isn’t the best idea. Sometimes you want to throw on whatever clothes are in your suitcase and recline in a comfy chair with a beer.
- Raygrodski – a chic spot for the fashionable crowds, with liquor bottles hanging upside-down from the ceiling, table service and a carefree attitude.
- 01 Bar – This bar caters to a rather young clientele who like to have a drink here before they probably head off for some bigger nightlife adventures. And classic bar fun is exactly what you get here – drinks, cocktails and beer on high and low standard tables.
- Almodobar – usually crowded with after-work bankers, but even if you don’t wear a tie you can easily fit in with the crowd. Watch some sports on the big screen or grab one of the zebra-style barstools.
If you want classy
Dressing up and going large more your thing? Zurich has some suave spots for you to mingle with the high flyers.
- Old Crow – the bartenders are real aficionados here, particularly regarding whisky. The bar has an English cottage vibe from outside, and soft lighting with green leather benches that make for a calm atmosphere inside.
- Kronenhalle Bar – Sit at marble-top tables below artwork by Picasso, Chagall and Mirò or at the all mahogany bar and choose one of the cocktails from bartender Peter Roth’s library.
- Onyx – A tiny green sign on the huge glass façade of the Park Hyatt is all that gives this one away, but once you step inside, you’ll find a world of elegance and style, where businesspeople and travellers mix with wannabe hipsters.
If you want alfresco
Outdoor dinners and funky atmosphere is just the tip of the iceberg of alfresco offerings in this happening city.
- Frau Gerolds Garten – old shipping containers house two bars and the kitchen, providing a terrace you can sit on and sip your gin while enjoying the view over the sea and railway.
- Hechtplatz Sommergarten – Every summer it turns into a lively open-air restaurant and bar, serving Vietnamese food in cooperation with the girls from Restaurant Saigon and drinks until midnight.
- Stazione Paradiso – This old s-train carriage from Berlin located in the summer hot spot Letten is one of the more alternative summer bars. You actually can sit inside the carriage but if all the seats are taken, just sit down on the steps towards the river or elsewhere in this park-like area.
If you want clubbing
The clubs in the trendy district of Zürich-West have turned Zürich into the European party metropolis; here, hip locales rub shoulders with unconventional bars, and out of the old is born the new.
- Mascotte – In this club you can feel the history: built around 1900 as a variété it has been a music and culture club ever since, with big bands and international DJs regular guests.
- Hive – setting the pace of Zurich West’s nightlife for many years now, the crowd ranges from students to thirty somethings who know how to party, extending into the early morning or even afternoon.
- Stairs – Set on the rooftop of the Letzipark shopping mall, fans of progressive, minimal and techno music will have to climb the stairs to this non-stop party.
Sold on Zurich? Of course you are. Now how about a trip there?
You can now win one of two double packages to Zurich – flights, 4-star accommodation, the works – and you can take a friend!
Book any ticket on LX using any SWISS fare between October 6 and November 15 2015 and you’ll be in the running to be one of two winners to score a week in Zurich.
