Webjet in hunt for chief executive
By admin

Webjet is on the search for a chief executive to oversee both the Webjet and Zuji brands in Australia and New Zealand.

The newly created position will report to managing director John Guscic.

Similar positions are being sought in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The online retailer said the successful applicant must have a record of significant TTV and profit growth in a "travel or travel related company" and display a "deep and real understanding of travel distribution and the inter-relationship of online, offline and airline and hotel distribution".

Webjet said it is "progressing major global growth opportunities including significant strategic growth in our home markets".

Non executive chairman David Clarke stressed it was "absolutely imperative" that the successful applicant had at least 15 years experience.

"The learning curve in this industry is monumental, we are not looking for someone with L plates," Clarke told Travel Today. "We need someone who knows the intricacies of hotel and airline operations and of GDSs.

"We are looking for someone with at last 15 years experience, maybe 20."

The search is being undertaken by Webjet itself, rather than through an agency, with Clarke saying offshore candidates will be considered if the environment where they currently work is similar to that of the Australian industry.

The appointment will made made "as soon as possible" but only once the right candidate has been found, Clarke added.
