Intrepid Travel has confirmed that its truck carrying 22 passengers and three local staff crashed two hours outside Nairobi on Sunday morning.

Two Australians are confirmed dead, with next of kin being advised by the Australian High Commission.

The remaining 18 passengers and staff have been transferred to a Nairobi hospital, with another two kept in local hospitals.

The tour was travelling from Kenya to Tanzania on a September 6 departure date.

Intrepid Travel co-founder Geoff Manchester has departed for Nairobi today to support passengers and staff.

Senior members of the operations team in Kenya are at the hospital and have been working with authorities.

Police believe the tragic accident was caused by a blown tyre on a steep downhill road which caused the vehicle to lose control.

The accident occurred near Narok, in a transit between Nairobi and Kisi.

“Our first concern is with those affected and their friends and families.   Senior managers from our operations team in Kenya are assisting passengers and staff involved," Intrepid Travel managing director James Thornton said.

"Intrepid Travel’s co-founder Geoff Manchester will be departing for Nairobi today to provide support and assistance for travellers and our ground team,” Thornton said.

Intrepid Travel have set up a dedicated phone line and concerned family and friends are asked to call 03 8601 4380.
