The winner of the Travellers Choice 2013 Brian Pateman Agency Award for Excellence has been revealed as Queensland's Discover Travel & Cruise.

The award, now in its 21st year, recognises outstanding performance in five categories which include preferred suppliers sales, attendance at network and industry events, marketing strategy, support for fellow members, and overall positive attitude towards being part of the Travellers Choice network.

Discover Travel & Cruise, which operates two agencies in the Brisbane suburbs of The Gap and Keperra, received $3,000 worth of travel from Qantas Airways as its prize.

Chief executive Christian Hunter praised the agency firm’s discipline, creativity and innovation.

“Discover Travel & Cruise has consistently shown remarkable support for our preferred suppliers, with almost 90% of the company’s sales directed to our Gold or Platinum partners,” he said.

“The company is also a proven leader in terms of local area marketing activities, promoting cruise holidays and embracing digital channels such as social media and TC Direct, our low-cost email marketing system.

The 2013 award was presented by the late Brian Pateman's wife, Joan Pateman, during Travellers Choice’s Annual Shareholders' Conference, held at the Grand Chancellor Hotel in Hobart at the weekend.

She also presented certificates to four Brian Pateman Agency Award for Excellence state finalists: Maria Slater Travel, NSW / ACT; iTravel & Cruise, SA; Boomerang Travel Centre, VIC/TAS; Australind Travel & Cruise Centre, WA.
