Industry concern about 457 visa changes

By admin

Tourism Accommodation Australia has voiced concerns about the impact of the government's plan to restrict 457 skilled worker visas.

The industry body believes that the accommodation industry will suffer as a result of these changes, as the visas fill skill shortages in hotel management and cookery.

"In contrast to the over-the-top rhetoric being employed by some members of the government, 457 visas are not taking jobs away from Australians," TAA managing director Rodger Powell said.

Powell said that restricting 457 visas will be further red tape and regulation for an industry that is struggling to meet the service demands of customers.

"We urge the government to tone down its emotive language, put aside the outrageous demands of the unions and consider the best policy outcome for Australian workers and the national economy," Powell said.
