South Pacific Islands celebrate strong Australia growth

The Treasures of the South Pacific came together in Sydney yesterday to celebrate another successful year of visitation to the region.

South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) marketing manager Alisi Lutu told Travel Today of the investment into the Australia market this year, SPTO contributed about 27% of its total marketing budget.

“Australia continues to be our strongest source market for the region accounting for 36% of the total visitor arrivals market share,” Lutu added. 

The region is about to experience its peak holiday period with the upcoming holidays, Lutu confirmed December to January as the busiest times in the islands.

The event saw the island nations of Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Tahiti, Samoa, New Caledonia, Nuie and Norfolk Island come together and lunch with travel trade in the Christmas spirit.

Lutu confirmed that the South Pacific Tourism Exchange will be held in Melbourne next year, with more international buyers committing to the event than previous year.

Meanwhile STPO will continue to support the region through brand and destination awareness while focusing on the more niche markets such as diving, fishing and surfing.
