Major League Baseball teams the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks have arrived in Australia for the Major League Baseball opening series to be held in Sydney.

Held from 20-23 March, the MLB opening series is to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground and is part of an effort to boost local interest in the sport and expose Australia to global audiences.

As part of the event Australia’s best home grown baseball talent is set to take on the LA Dodgers on Thursday March 20 and Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday March 21, while the two American teams will play each other on March 22 and 23.

The games will be broadcast around the world including Australia, the USA, Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan.

“Qantas is proud to sponsor the MLB Opening Series, which will generate significant brand awareness for the airline in the US with each game expected to be viewed by more than 160 million households,” Qantas International chief executive Simon Hickey said.

In support of the opening series, Qantas painted the two Boeing 747s that carried the teams to Australia in a special livery with each seat headrest cover personalised with the team’s logos. The players' favourite dishes were also added to the inflight menu.
