This week, Qantas adds its 68th next generation Boeing 737-800 to its 314-strong fleet, marking the latest step in its ongoing fleet renewal.

The airline has taken delivery of 123 new aircraft in just over four years, lowering the average age of its passenger aircraft to 7.9 years.

“We know that a modern aircraft like the Boeing 737, with the latest in technology and design, is a major draw card for our customers,” Qantas Domestic chief executive Lyell Strambi said.

Rising demand for group bookings has prompted coach touring firm Trafalgar to create the new role of national groups manager.

It is to be filled by Paul Groves-Berry, formerly The Travel Corporation’s custom groups manager in Europe where he oversaw all of TTC’s coach brands.

Sydney-based hotel representation company Randall Marketing has expanded its Sydney team with the appointment of Vivienne Carey as sales and marketing executive.

Occupancy levels in Sydney’s CBD broke New Year’s Eve highs averaging 98.7% on Saturday October 5 as more than 1.4 million people flooded the city for a hefty line-up of events.

Destination NSW said the International Fleet Review, NRL Grand Final and Parramasala Festival at Parramatta all contributed to making the long weekend one of the busiest periods since the 2000 Olympics.

United Airlines has equipped its 100th aircraft with satellite WiFi Internet connectivity, with the US carrier fitting approximately 30 aircraft with the technology each month.

It expects to have nearly 200 aircraft equipped with the service by the end of the year.
