Travel agents could be in the running to win a trip for two on a World Expeditions Himalayan trekking adventure if they correctly answer five questions before December 31.

The winner will choose from itineraries Gokyo Lakes & Renjo La, Sherpa Everest, Everest Base Camp and Kala Pattar, Best of Annapurna Dhaulagiri or Annapurna Chitwan. The prize also includes round trip economy airfares for two people from their nearest Australian capital city to Kathmandu, Nepal, courtesy of Thai Airways International.

TravelManagers has appointed Allianz Global Assistance as its sole travel insurance provider to service its network of over 400 home-based agents Australia-wide.

The deal, announced as the firm’s annual conference gets underway, is expected to deliver “continuity of service and product offerings”.

 

Tempo Holidays has released its Britain and Ireland 2014 program featuring new London Experience tours.

They include a four day Royal Experience tour taking in Windsor, Kew Gardens and Kensington Gardens and a five day London Your Way package which includes vouchers to three key attractions such as the London Eye and Madame Tussauds.

Welsh Experiences have also been added following the "resurgence" of Wales as a tourist hotspot, Tempo said, while a new Northern Ireland section features a three day Taste of Belfast tour.

In addition, the wholesaler has introduced a coach tour section.

 

The influence of “global megatrends” on responsible tourism and ecotourism will be discussed by a diverse program of speakers at the 21st annual Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference.

The event will be held at Outrigger Little Hastings Street Resort in Noosa, Queensland between November 18 and 20. It will feature speakers such as Keith Sproule, business advisor with the World Wildlife Fund in Namibia and Mariglo Laririt, director of sustainability at the Ten Knots Corporation in the Philippines among others.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts is celebrating a milestone as it opened its 100th Sheraton in Asia Pacific, with the new addition located in Shantou, China.

The Sheraton Shantou Hotel, owned by Logan Group, is one of nearly 30 new hotels in the region this year, and highlights its rapidly growing importance for the brand, according to global brand leader Hoyt Harper.

“Sheraton has enjoyed phenomenal success in Asia Pacific where it has helped meet the tremendous demand for high-calibre lodging generated by the rising middle class,” he said.

There are also over 50 properties in the development pipeline in Asia Pacific – both its second largest and fastest growing market as it moves towards its target of 500 hotels worldwide by 2016.
