Etihad Airways has confirmed that it is not in talks with Malaysia Airlines about the possibility of an equity investment in the carrier.

The statement comes as speculation swirls around the future of Malaysia’s troubled national carrier.

 

Africa specialist Bench International has urged the travel industry to work to dispel misconceptions about Kenya as general manager Martin Edwards dismissed reports the British High Commission had advised against visiting the country as “not true”.

The travel advisory change targeted Mombasa and not other areas of Kenya, he insisted.

“There is no reason whatsoever to stop sending Aussies to Kenya,” he said. “In fact, from now until the end of the year is the ideal time to visit from a wildlife point of view as the Great Migration is underway between Tanzania and Kenya.”

 

Travellers Choice will farewell business development manager VIC/TAS Sharon Richardson on July 3 as she retires after 14 years with the travel network.

“Sharon’s dedication has helped transform a small cooperative to a highly-respected, sophisticated retail network operating on a national stage,” chief executive Christian Hunter said. “She has done that by working tirelessly to provide our members with the support they need to nurture and grow their businesses.”

 

Travel training business Cornerstone People Solutions has appointed Sharyn Van Der Veeken, formerly of Globus, as its new national business development manager.

She will be charged with growing the Cornerstone brand and building awareness of the nationally accredited qualifications it offers.

 

Property developer Gurner has been granted approval by the Brisbane City Council to move forward with plans to deliver its $600 million landmark FV project to Fortitude Valley in Brisbane which includes a 90-room 4.5 star hotel.

Construction is anticipated to commence on the Elenberg Fraser-desgined building in early 2015 and take two years to complete.
