Midweek interview with Andrea Powis, Chief Executive and founder of Travelling Divas

The challenge for the industry is… A continuous one of learning to beat the price discounting mentality. A good consultant and/or product are worth the price of their time and the experience the customer is buying, we need to believe in that or how can we persuade the customer to buy?

The things I like about my job are… Flexibility, creativity, the customers, product research and development (and finding the ‘moment’ the customer would never find themselves).

And the frustrations… Working solo most of the time!

If I didn’t work in travel I would be a… Coffee shop owner

Qantas or Virgin?  Both – depends on schedule and convenience.

My proudest moment was… Marrying my husband, Ivor

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Not for publication

I try to relax by… Enjoying time at my beach house with friends and family

The last time I feared for my life… Never

If I can, I always try to avoid… Passive aggressive people

I really wish I had… An assistant so I could get more done!

The best advice I’ve ever received was… Follow your gut instinct every time – the times that I didn’t have not worked out.

I don’t understand why… We just can’t all get on and let each other be who we are.

My greatest weakness is… French Champagne

And my greatest strength… My ability to work on several things at a time

If I was prime minister I would…Reform the tax system. It is far too complex and people don’t really understand what they pay and where the money goes. There must be a simpler and more effective way than what we currently have.

If I won $1 million on the lottery… I would look after my family and then buy a house in France

If I could be someone else for one day I would be… Angelina Jolie – I want to see what her life is really like

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Egypt

My favourite holiday was… A getaway in New York, we flew Concorde, ate at some amazing restaurants, met Keith Richards in the lounge, shopped like crazy and it was just a perfect time in our lives.
