Fog causes flight delays in Melbourne

Fog has caused problems at Melbourne Airport this morning, affecting both the domestic and international airport services and causing travel delays.

A spokesperson for Qantas advised that despite the delays of up to 30 minutes, flights from Sydney to Melbourne still took off, however were forced into a holding pattern circling Melbourne.

Virgin Australia has also experienced delays and have had to cancel five return flights out of Melbourne. The airline advised those passengers affected will be reaccommodated onto later flights.

Several international flights from Melbourne will be diverted to Sydney.

Melbourne Airport spokeswoman Anna Gillett said amongst the affected flights QF94, from Los Angeles to Melbourne, which was diverted to Sydney.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, visibility was expected to be down to about 200 metres.
