2014's best hotels, according to Expedia
By admin

Expedia has announced the results of its 2014 Insiders’ Select study, where a list of the ‘best’ hotels is compiled based on the reviews of almost two million guests and in-house experts.

The list features 650 hotels from more than 290,000 bookable properties available on Expedia websites.

Taking out top spot this year was the Lakehouse Hotel and Resort in San Marcos, California, followed closely by Blue Karma Resort in Seminyak, Bali.

America proved a strong competitor with six of the top 10 rated hotels based in the US, however this year Aussie hotels made a name for themselves.

Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park came in as favourite Aussie hotel, ranking 107th on the global list. Sea Change Beachfront Apartments in Queensland was the second Australian hotel, coming in at number 233.

Queensland was the strongest performing state, with Agincourt Beachfront Apartments, Midtown Apartments and Shantara Resort Port Douglas joining the international names.

New South Wales was also featured, with Novotel Sydney Rooty Hill and Pullman Quay Grand Sydney coming in as third and seventh best hotels in Australia, respectively. Melbourne’s Hilton South Wharf rounded out the Australian contributions to the list.

Expedia ANZ’s marketing director Louise Crompton said it was exciting to see Australian hotels make it onto the global list, especially with the unbiased method of Expedia customer reviews.

“The hotel rankings and reviews are completely organic, written by Expedia customers,” Crompton said.

“We’re really excited to see eight local Australian hotels, like Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park and Melbourne’s Hilton South Wharf, recognised alongside hundreds of world-class hotels this year.”
