Carnival brings second ship to Australia

Carnival Cruise Lines will operate a second ship in Australia with the seasonal deployment of Carnival Legend from September 2014.

The 2,680-passenger ship will embark on a program of eight to 12 day Pacific Island cruises from Sydney with full details to be released later this month.

Legend, which has already been earmarked for a second season in 2015, will be revamped prior to its arrival to appeal to the Australian market.

The 11-year-old ship will operate alongside Carnival Spirit which carried 100,000 passengers during its maiden Australian season, 60% of them first time cruisers.

Carnival Cruise Lines director Jennifer Vandekreeke said: “As sister to Carnival Spirit, Carnival Legend will offer the same wide spaces, an abundance of stateroom options such as balconies and interconnecting rooms and an unparalleled variety of activities.

“It will go into dry dock in 2014 where she will receive a range of upgrades to ensure she’s perfectly suited for the tastes of the Aussie market.

“We will be using our valuable learnings from the first year of Carnival Spirit’s deployment to decide on the best features and enhancements for Australians.”

Bookings will open in June with details of the upgrades unveiled over the next few months.

The first cruise will depart Sydney on September 24.
