Avis has named the four finalists vying for the crown – and $40,000 first prize – of top retailer in the 2013 Travel Agent Scholarship.

Leanne Ralston from Spencer Travel in NSW, Ann Hobbs from Travelworld Kununurra in WA, Maria Pandalai from Travel Managers Townsville in Queensland and Kristi-Anne Butel from Complete Travel Solutions Brendale, also in Queensland, will compete for the title.

All will travel to Sydney for the final judging and award dinner on October 29.

Now in its 17th year, the scholarship recognises excellence in customer service with the winner taking home a range of educational and travel-related prizes valued at more than $40,000.

It includes two business class tickets to New York, six nights’ accommodation in Manhattan and seven days Avis car rental.

Last year's winner, Bettiann Gain, is pictured with Avis travel industry manager Russell Butler.
